Liverpool FC transfer gossip: Reds set to go for "marquee signing"; Rodgers targets Benzema; Atletico youngster to move to Anfield on-loan

Liverpool FC are set to cap off a £150m spending spree with a "marquee signing" according to the Daily Mirror.

The Reds are ready to tie up a deal for Loic Remy and hope to follow that by bringing in Dejan Lovren and Divock Origi - taking Liverpool's pre-season spending to almost £100m.

Brendan Rodgers is not ready to stop there and wants to bring in a big-name signing such as Dortmund's Marco Reus or one of Juventus duo Arturo Vidal and Paul Pogba.

No Liverpool manager has ever spent as much but Rodgers is determined to strengthen after being handed funds by John Henry after the departure of Luis Suarez.

Liverpool could strengthen their forward line by moving for Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema, that's according to the Daily Mail.

The 26-year-old frontman would cost around £40m but Liverpool are not prepared to rock the boat in order to bring him in.

The Reds would have to move quickly though, as Benzema is said to be close to agreeing a new deal in the Spanish capital.

Reports in Spain suggest Liverpool will soon complete the loan signing of 20-year-old Spanish right-back Javier Manquillo.

The Atletico Madrid youngster had been a target for Arsenal but the Reds seem to have won the race for his signature.

The Spaniard is keen to get game time and believes he is more likely to get that at Anfield, where he would provide competition for Glen Johnson, than at the Emirates, as Arsenal have just completed the signing of Mathieu Debuchy.
