School of Rock: TV Show Ordered by Nickelodeon

Nickelodeon has ordered a new TV show based on the School of Rock feature film from 2003. There will be 13 episodes. No word yet if there will be any involvement from members of the movie cast — like perhaps Miranda Cosgrove, the star of the cable channel’s hit series iCarly.

Here’s the press release:

What Is That 'Manhattan' TV Series About? 5 Reasons To Give The Manhattan Project Show A Chance

Cigarettes. Radios. Frustrated sighs. War propaganda. Dust whipping in the wind. Red lipstick. Pearls and cardigans. Men in suits. Men in uniforms. If you love hearing or reading or watching or listening or talking about anything World War II-related, then Manhattan will probably be your jam. However, it should be noted that there are two big differences between the usual take on World War II-inspired TV shows and films and WGN America’s new series: It’s set in 1943 Los Alamos, New Mexico, not 1943 Europe, and the star of the show isn’t the war, it’s the science behind the war.

5 TV Shows Canceled After Just One Episode

TV is truly a cut throat business now. Where as once, getting your own show meant sure fire success for most actors or actresses, such is no longer the case. If a show is not bringing in the heads, no matter who is in it or what time slot of network it is on, it will fail. But can you even imagine being associated with a TV show that was canceled after just one episode? You wouldn’t think that common, but it has been common enough that we can come up with this list of five TV shows canceled after just one episode. Yikes, what a blow to the ego that must have been. As a writer, the thought is nauseating.

10 More Hilarious TV Blooper Reels You Can Watch Right Now

A couple of weeks ago we presented you with TV bloopers to watch to your heart’s content – or until you strained your funny bone, whichever came first. Since it’s a Monday, and Mondays can be hard, we thought we’d follow up with a whole new set of blooper reels from your favorite (well, probably at least a few) TV series. Because what’s a better pick-me-up than watching your favorite stars crack each other up on set?

We even included a few of the shows our readers suggested in the comments section of the last post. I know, we’re pretty fabulous. So go forth, press play, and laugh your ass off. This might be considered NSFW if your boss disapproves of guffawing and clapping your hands nonstop during work hours. You’ve been warned.

Is it Wrong For Bibliophiles to Spoil Movies or TV Shows?

The Suvudu team wanted people’s thoughts on this question: “Is it right to spoil the movie or TV show if you’ve read the book?” The video embedded above features a few responses from various Comic-Con 2014 attendees.

How does Fight Club author Chuck Palahniuk feel about spoilers? He despises them! What about The Maze Runner author James Dashner? He feels that people who wish to avoid spoilers should just read the book “fast.”

More stressed workers admitting to binge watching TV shows like ‘Breaking Bad’

On a rainy Saturday in South Florida, Gabriela Garcia lay in her bed watching another episode of “Castle.” She could get some fresh air, or even read a book or two, but watching Richard Castle investigate the homicide of a reality-show contestant had her enthralled. Before the day was out, she watched five more episodes of the TV series on Netflix.

“It’s my therapy,” says Garcia, a 37-year-old compliance officer at a Miami bank. “I work hard during the week and on weekends, I want to be lazy.”

10 Forgotten But Much Beloved Canadian TV Shows for Kids

Right now, the world is all about 90s nostalgia. From Girl Meets World to every 90s boy band and girl group reunion, there was something about that time we’re trying to recall.

But you know what was really great about the 90s? Canadian TV shows for kids. Remember coming home from school to watch YTV? If you’re too young to remember that, then I’m just super old. Shows like Student Bodies and Breaker High were silly fun and Uh-Oh was a game show I was and remain desperate to be on (blue team, always — Ed. note: they always won).

Scientists use brain waves to predict the popularity of TV shows

Scientists have found a way to tell if a television series will be a hit or flop by hooking viewers up to an EEG and monitoring their brain waves.

The study, led by Jacek Dmochowski from City College of New York, looked at how brain activity reacts to mainstream television viewing. Dmochowski and his research team had 16 people watch scenes from "The Walking Dead," as well as commercials from the past two years' Super Bowls. Researchers hooked the participants up to EEG electrodes that measured their brain waves as they watched.

SummerWorks 2014 offers high-end theatrical entertainment

Richard Ouzounian recommends what to sample from buffet of drama, dance, music on offer in August festival.

If the Toronto Fringe Festival, with its mad energy and lottery-driven results, can sometimes resemble dining at the Mandarin Buffet, then SummerWorks is more a matter of breaking bread with some devoted farm-to-table locavores with wildly eclectic palates.

Both methods can offer delights and disasters, but it’s safe to say that you’re likely to find plenty of high-end theatrical nourishment in any half-dozen SummerWorks shows, like the ones we’re about to recommend.

Comedy that inspired me to cover myself in Nutella

Louis De Funès

As I was born in France, I grew accustomed to cheese and wine for breakfast, my Mum’s hairy armpits (this is a stereotype which I do not endorse… Ma Maman’s armpits were always kempt in satisfactorily smoothness) and an actor who put the ‘fun’ in his name, even though ‘fun’ isn’t a French word, Louis De Funès. He was an extremely popular actor who died in the 1980s, but still very much lives on in the memories and shelves of many French people.

Edinburgh festival review: Donald Robertson Is Not a Stand-Up Comedian – clever bully story

Gary McNair marries standup and theatre in a small but smart comedy about using humour to battle bullies

Is all comedy inherently cruel? It's a question at the heart of this small but clever and rewarding show. Created by Gary McNair, it blends theatrical storytelling with standup to excellent effect, and is delivered with a knock-out punchline. Trevor Griffiths' great play Comedians, explores how comedy can be used as a vicious weapon of prejudice. McNair takes a slightly different tack, casting himself as a not very good standup called Gary McNair who is performing at the Edinburgh Chuckle Hut, a down-at-heel comedy bar. It's probably not the wisest move to open the set by calling your audience "a bagful of dicks".

Asperger's makes stand-up easier than office work

A man with Asperger's syndrome finds being a professional stand-up comic easier than any office job. Why?

"A team leader in one call-centre where I worked had a list of rules on everything," he says. "It didn't specifically say that I was not allowed to wear a Gareth Gates' mask. So I made one from a magazine and wore it for three hours." He was asked to leave.
