Star Watch: Phil Mickelson provides early morning entertainment

I have no idea how it happened, but somehow Phil Mickelson shot a 70 in the second round of the 2014 British Open.

Mickelson was all over the park -- in the brush, off the grandstands, in backyards -- and somehow pieced together a round of 2 under to get back to even par for the week, which should be pretty decent after what figures to be a rough day weather-wise at Hoylake.

"It was a crazy round," Mickelson told ESPN. "I played really well and I had a couple of loose strokes."

It certainly was a crazy round as Mickelson made an eagle, a birdie, two bogeys, and the nuttiest par you'll ever see in his first 10 holes.

Here's a look at his card:

Phil sounded up after his round, though and part of that is because he was under par on a day when a lot of folks won't be.

He wants the course to get worse, too.

Yes, worse.

"It's supposed to get ugly tomorrow and if it does I have a great chance," said Mickelson. Right now I have more control of the golf ball than I've ever had."

Ever!

Mickelson might not win back-to-back Opens but surely he'll provide more entertainment than everybody else combined.

Adam Scott (3 under): The Australian had a round getting a little out of control before he went birdie-birdie in the last two holes to keep it at 1 over for the second round and 3 under for the tournament.

He also noted the tough conditions:

Twitter:

Adam Scott: "Drives are going miles, and 4-irons are going 300."

Bubba Watson (4 over): Bubba whined (sort of) about the media coverage of him but he hung in with an even-par 72 that will likely get him to the weekend. Quirk of Bubba's week: 34 both days on the front nine and 80 combined on the back.
