Comedy big-hitters Jimmy Carr, Dawn French, Al Murray and Jethro confirm Hull dates

Some of the biggest names in comedy are heading for Hull as the city's theatres unveil their new season schedules.

TV stars including Ross Noble, Noel Fielding, Jimmy Carr and Jon Richardson are among those who are leading the comedic charge to Hull, as the nation's funnymen – and women – take to the road after launching their latest shows at the Edinburgh Fringe.

Veteran Cornish funnyman Jethro will kick things off at Hull City Hall on Wednesday, September 24, followed swiftly by Pub Landlord Al Murray on Sunday, September 28, with his new show, One Man, One Guvnor.

October is set to be a busy month for fun fans at City Hall as Ross Noble will be bringing his latest surreal musings, entitled Tangentleman, there on Tuesday, October 14, followed by Never Mind The Buzzcocks captain Noel Fielding on Thursday, October 23, and Brummie comic legend Jasper Carrott on Wednesday, October 29.

Carrott will be performing his new show Stand Up And Rock – combing comedy with classic rock'n'roll songs, alongside his childhood friend Bev Bevan, drummer with The Move, Black Sabbath and the Electric Light Orchestra.

Hull New Theatre has scored a coup in November by landing a date on Dawn French's first solo tour.

French's show, 30 Million Minutes, is a wry look back on the comedienne's life and career so far. It will arrive at the theatre on Wednesday, November 26.

Earlier that month, across town, Jon Richardson will play Hull City Hall on Sunday, November 9, followed by fellow 8 Out Of 10 Cats regular Jimmy Carr on Friday, November 21.

Not to be left out, Hull Truck is also set to welcome a number of well-known – and some more off the wall – stand-ups in thE coming months.

Britolian Mark Watson will bring his show Flaws to Hull Truck on Saturday, October 18, with John Shuttleworth, who will perform his latest A Wee Ken To Remember on Tuesday, November 25.

Other comedians bringing acclaimed shows to the Ferensway theatre include musician Vikki Stone, who will perform her show Instrumental on Friday, September 19, and cod-French philosopher Marcel Lucont, who will bring some baffling insights into the human condition to Hull Truck on Friday, October 10.

Perhaps the most risque performer appearing as part of Truck's new season is Miranda Kane.

The former £2,000-a-night 22st escort has turned her experiences of working as a plus-size sex worker into a "thought-provoking, heart-warming and hilarious" show.
