What a sham! TOWIE's Lydia & Arg 'FAKING' reunion – so she can earn cash for mortgage

WE all know that TOWIE gets a bit of a “tjuzing up for our entertainment”, but we had hoped the reunion between lovers James ‘Arg’ Argent and Lydia Bright was for real.

Sadly, it seems not – Lydia has been accused of faking her relationship with the tubby crooner as a way of getting back onto the show.

The fashion designer quit the show last year, but returned at the end of the last series.

Microsoft Shutters Xbox Entertainment Studios And Shows Why Content Is So Hard

If you grow up in the Boston area, no good adjective is ever left to stand on its own – “wicked” is the go-to adverb for all occasions.  How was that party (OK, pah-ty)? Wicked excellent! How hot (OK, hawt) was it yesterday? Wicked hot! And so, if someone asks me if succeeding in the content business is hard, I’d have to say, “Wicked hard!” Microsoft’s decision last week to shut down Xbox Entertainment Studios provides a window into that reality.

Look, Microsoft had plenty going for them: They hired executives in Nancy Tellem and Jordan Levin with quite successful track records in running media content, they have massively deep pockets, and they have a powerful brand and platform in Xbox.  But I suspect Microsoft wasn’t interested in a vanity business and didn’t need to spend money to hang out with “Hollywood types” (although Steve Ballmer will be living that dream through owning the Los Angeles Clippers).  If you really want to “move the needle” for your company, your partners or your investors, there is a pretty huge checklist that you’ve got to get right to succeed in content – and it’s always growing.

'Grotesquely violent' play takes toll on viewers

Titus Andronicus, the "grotesquely violent" Shakespearean tale of revenge, has 14 deaths, many violently bloody, as well as rape and mutilation.

But that's nothing compared to the audience casualty toll of its recent run at the Globe Theatre in London.

More than 100 people either fainted or left the theatre after being overcome by on-stage gore - making it a strong candidate for the most potent show in British history, The Independent reported.

Zac Efron named hottest hunk

The 'Bad Neighbours' actor has topped Heat Magazine's annual poll, knocking last year's winner, Olympic diver Tom Daley, off the top spot and into second place, while retired soccer star David Beckham retained third place.

The magazine's editor-in-chief Lucie Cave said website users "voted in their thousands and selected Zac Efron as the hottest man alive", explaining he secured top spot in the 101 Hottest Hunks list thanks to his topless appearance in 'Bad Neighbours' and having his shirt ripped off by Rita Ora at the MTV Movie Awards.

Chattanooga's noise ordinance creates entertainment area from 4th to Main streets

The long awaited noise ordinance that Southside residents had hoped would put a stop to loud concerts at Track 29 creates an entertainment area that runs from 4th Street past Main Street where businesses with a permit could ramp up their music until midnight on the weekends.

The largest changes in this ordinance released this afternoon would essentially create a district where businesses could apply for a permit to blast their music at specific times of the night, depending on whether its the weekend or week day.

‘Drop Dead Perfect,’ a Comedy With Everett Quinton

In a sweet 1950s peach crocheted dress and matching bolero, Everett Quinton has never looked lovelier. As Idris Seabright, a lonely and overwrought spinster growing old in the Florida Keys, he laments a storm having wreaked “havoc on my African hibiscus — and my poor bougainvillea,” hitting each syllable with that posh Eastern accent that 1930s actresses favored. When a chord of ominous movie music plays, Idris strikes a terrified pose, and we could easily be downtown at the Ridiculous Theatrical Company, where Mr. Quinton and Charles Ludlam starred in the original “The Mystery of Irma Vep” 30 years ago.

Mr. Quinton is a genius. It is absolute rapture to see him in his element in “Drop Dead Perfect,” a Peccadillo Theater Company production at the Theater at St. Clement’s that originated at Penguin Rep in Rockland County.

Noel Fielding's 'Luxury Comedy': A land of the outright bizarre

As his surreal comedy series returns to E4, Noel Fielding tells James Rampton why mainstream success scares him and what the future holds for The Boosh

Noel Fielding is standing, dressed in an apron, on the set of his E4 show. A bijou Hawaiian coffee shop has been meticulously re-created inside a vast warehouse at Three Mills Studio and as we watch from behind the monitor, the show's star, in character as the proprietor of the Luxury Coffee Shop on the side of a volcano, breaks off from the action, turns to camera and attempts to explain the plot of the episode thus far: "OK, so let's get this straight. Because I chose to set the coffee shop in Hawaii on the edge of a volcano, I now have to sacrifice one of my characters to the volcano. Otherwise, the locals, who are the cast of Magnum PI, will sacrifice me. I mean, who wrote this?" Welcome to the freaky world of Noel Fielding.

Five Comedy Incubations That Hatched Into Major Stars and Projects

Last month, during a master class at the Taormina Film Festival, no less a star than Ben Stiller admitted that his career wouldn’t have gotten far if he’d relied on auditions, which seldom went his way early on, for other people’s projects.

“A lot of times, I did things because I wasn’t getting work as an actor,” said Stiller, explaining how he redirected that frustration into making shorts or creating projects that grew into career opportunities. “There’s really no excuse to not be doing what you want to do. Now, you can make a movie with your phone. If you start to create, something will come out of that.”
Here, starting with one of Stiller’s own examples, are five incubations that hatched full-fledged projects or stars.

Mark Normand on indie comedy, bombing and the secret to getting laughs (Laughspin interview)

Mark Normand, one of the fastest rising and most versatile comedians in the country, cut his teeth at open mics, bar shows and by performing in loft apartments. His first album Still Got It was released recently on Comedy Central Records, as well as his episode of Comedy Central’s The Half Hour. I talked to Normand about producing successful shows, not being complacent, the clubhouse mentality of the indie comedy scene and much more. Check it out!

The Biggest Celebrity Home Flippers: Ellen DeGeneres, Jennifer Aniston, Jeremy Renner, And More

When Ellen DeGeneres sold the Brody House–a gem of Los Angeles architecture she’d bought in an off-market deal–to billionaire Sean Parker for a cool $55 million a few weeks ago, she turned a $15 million profit in just six short months.

Just a couple months earlier, DeGeneres, who bought the Brody House in January, had told the New York Times that she couldn’t imagine a reason she’d ever say goodbye. Well, looks like she found one–at the same time underlining her reputation as Hollywood’s reigning flipper. She is among a handful of celebrities who have been buying, renovating, and reselling properties for years.

Selena Gomez tops celebrity birthdays for July 22

Selena Gomez is leaving all her childish antics behind her, including a relationship with Justin Bieber.

The actress turned pop star sensation turns 21 today.

Here are some things you might not have known about her:

Kanye West Compared The Idea Of Being A Celebrity To Being Black In The '60s In His Wedding Speech

A lot of speculation surrounded Kanye West and Kim Kardashian's wedding in May.

Everyone was dying to know what went down during the couple's lavish Italian nuptials. It's only been two months since Kimye tied the knot and people are STILL talking about it!

Leading up to the wedding, the majority of the reports talked about Kim's wedding dress to the decor of the event and everything in between.

And many of us have also taken inspiration from their beautiful figures and given it a go.

Celebrity MasterChef runner up Jodie Kidd makes David Blakeley wait for dinner

Jodie Kidd, who was runner up in the Celebrity MasterChef final, now takes a while to cook meals since the show, according to her fiancé David Blakeley

Jodie Kidd’s new status as the runner up in the Celebrity MasterChef final means that the supermodel’s fiancé David Blakeley has now been demoted to helping with breakfasts.

“All lunches and dinners now take one hour and 15 minutes, no matter what,” the former soldier tells Mandrake at the Veuve Clicquot Gold Cup at Cowdray Park. “It’s delicious, but you do have to wait.”

EPA tweet baffles: ‘I’m now a C-List celebrity in Kim Kardashian: Hollywood’ iPhone game

The Environmental Protection Agency’s Office of Water sent out a baffling tweet that invited social media readers to join in an iPhone game about reality star Kim Kardashian, leading even one member of Congress to scratch his head and ask, “You OK, @EPAwaster?”

The tweet, from the agency that’s supposed to ensure drinking water is safe: “I’m now a C-List celebrity in Kim Kardashian: Hollywood. Come join me and become famous too by playing on iPhone!”

White Dee snubs £100k Celebrity Big Brother offer

Hit show clashes with Benefits Street star's existing commitments, says agent

Benefits Street star White Dee has snubbed a £100,000 fee to appear on Celebrity Big Brother because filming for the reality TV show clashed with her existing television commitments.

Dee, real name Deirdre Kelly, cannot enter the Big Brother House after already pledging to take part in a TV cookery show, which is being made at the same time as CBB.

Theroux adjusts to celebrity life

Justin Theroux has said it has taken him a while to get used to his celebrity status now that he is engaged to Jennifer Aniston.

The actor and writer told Elle magazine he had learned not to pay too much attention to life in the spotlight, but that he was still surprised by the number of rumours about them.

He admitted: "My life changed a lot. More people are like, 'Hey, man!' And I don't think that's from my role in John Adams. But it only changed as much as I engaged with it, and I learned very quickly: Don't ever engage with it.

Selena Gomez and the perils of celebrity politics

Former tween star Selena Gomez got quite the social-media smackdown over an Instagram post last week in which she invited her followers to “Pray for Gaza.” The actress quickly backtracked from what some interpreted to be a pro-Palestine stance, following the post with a middle-of-the-road one that was impossible to argue with: “And of course to be clear, I am not picking any sides. I am praying for peace and humanity for all!”

Lesson learned: “not picking any sides” (except for “peace,” which is totally okay to root for) is probably the only safe stance for a former Disney princess — even one who aspires to gravitas (guys, she’s a UNICEF ambassador!).

Gomez was treading the choppy waters that confront any celeb looking to wade into the political realm. From boundary-pushing to super-safe, here’s a sampling  from the spectrum of social causes the glitterati have embraced:

U.K. TV shows winning over North American audiences

When The Office’s David Brent made the jump across the pond, Ricky Gervais’s much-loved character from Slough was transformed for its North American audience into a small-time Pennsylvanian office supplies manager, played by Steve Carell. The Westminster drama The Thick of It, meanwhile, was teleported to Washington, D.C.

But now it seems the days of U.S. television bosses giving British shows the Hollywood makeover treatment are over.

Industry experts say Americans have finally got a taste for British television and record numbers are tuning in — from the several million watching Downton Abbey and Sherlock to those catching Call the Midwife and Broadchurch. (Though Broadchurch is also being remade for a North American audience as Gracepoint — filmed in British Columbia — with lead actor David Tennant reprising his role, but with a U.S. accent.)

Barack Obama's 10 favourite TV shows

US President Barack Obama would make a discerning TV critic: his 10 favourite television shows include The Wire, M*A*S*H, Parks and Recreation and Boardwalk Empire

Whatever you might think of Barack Obama's qualities as President, there is little doubt that he is a man with good taste in television.

Labour leader Ed Miliband is visiting the White House at the moment and his delegation gave Obama DVD box sets of British shows such as State of Play and The State Within.

SDCC 2014: 5 TV Shows We're Excited For at Comic-Con

With dozens and dozens of panels devoted to TV shows at San Diego Comic-Con, it's pretty difficult to figure out a list of just five shows we're excited for... so we kind of cheated and included some entries that pair together more than one series!

TV has become a huge part of SDCC, and as comic book movies and more genre projects expand into television, there's an amazing array of panels this year focused on some very big properties, where the cast and producers will be in attendance, often debuting new footage.

Why So Many TV Shows Peak in Season 3

Producers say that the novelty factor for a series often starts to wear off four seasons in.

LOS ANGELES—Lost. Sons of Anarchy. Grey’s Anatomy. 30 Rock. The Office. Justified. Glee. Parks and Recreation. They are some of the best, most celebrated, and longest-running shows of recent years. But they also have something else in common: Even their most ardent fans would agree that each of these shows had their strongest, most memorable seasons in the second or third year of their respective runs.

And while most of the actors and producers dream that the new shows they are promoting to reporters at the Television Critics Association’s summer press tour will be on the air for many years to come, the truth is that more often then not, those shows will peak creatively sooner rather than later.

Netflix quietly updates Apple TV channel with 'Post-Play' feature for TV shows

Television fans can now binge on their favorite shows more efficiently as streaming movie behemoth Netflix has brought its popular "Post-Play" feature, which automatically plays the next episode of a television series after a short delay, to the Apple TV.

A popular feature in the company's web client and iPad app, Post-Play has been sorely missed on Apple's set-top streamer and the change will be welcomed by heavy Netflix users. AppleInsider was first tipped to the change by reader Richard.

Israel fund to invest $55 million in TV shows for sale abroad

TEL AVIV (Reuters) - The TV Format Fund aims to capitalize on the recent success of Israeli television shows such as spy thriller "Homeland" in Hollywood by investing in new formats created in Israel and selling them abroad.

Founded six months ago by Alon Dolev and the Rubicon Business Group, the fund plans to invest $55 million, hoping to do for Israel's small but active entertainment sector what venture capital funds have done for its high-tech industry.

Audiences rising for fewer BBC Wales TV shows

BBC Wales director Rhodri Talfan Davies says increase in viewers had been achieved by more people watching popular series like Hinterland

More people are watching BBC Wales television programmes despite fewer of them being made, the broadcaster’s annual report has revealed.

In recent years there has been a decline in the annual programme hours made by BBC Wales.

The best new TV series of 2014 (so far)

In June, The A.V. Club’s Tournament Of Episodes exhaustively catalogued and accurately identified (with no room for further debate) the finest television episodes of the 2013-14 season, declaring The Good Wife’s “Hitting The Fan” the absolute best. Because that feature partially pulled from the past six-plus months of television, to once more exhaustively catalog and accurately identify (with no room for further debate) 2014’s best TV would be redundant. In an effort to keep things fresh and to avoid all redundancies, The A.V. Club instead presents this list of the series debuts that caught our fancy during the year to date. While some new favorites haven’t aired enough episodes to merit inclusion (sorry, The Leftovers—check back in December), here’s a handful of shows whose first seasons deserve appreciation, catch-up binges, and a season pass in 2015.

Patience: What Viewers Can't Afford To Give TV Shows In These Hyper-Competitive Times

The TV universe is so cluttered with quality that viewers are likely to be less tolerant of slow creative growth.

As FX—one of the most successful cable channels, and a purveyor of high-end content—spent Monday with critics at the Television Critics Association, it put a spotlight on one of the most intriguing challenges facing viewers.

Patience.
As someone who consumes a borderline-unwatchable amount of television, and in turn gets loads of anecdotal evidence that viewers are drowning in the number of shows they want to watch because the quality is so high, I know that the x-factor between success and failure is some kind of insane equation that quantifies patience and time, first impressions and the track record of the channel the show appears on.

Marvel continues its big screen dominance with five new movies planned through 2019

After a big week of announcements from Marvel Comics, the publisher's production company has announced some future moves of its own, according to Collider.com. While we are still in Phase 2 of the Marvel cinematic roll-out of films, Marvel Studios is already gearing up for Phase 3 and beyond.

In the move, the studio has announced five major release dates for films through 2019, filling the schedule with two untitled movies in 2017, two in 2018 and one in 2019. Before this announcement, the studio already had release dates for "Avengers: Age of Ultron," "Ant-Man," "Captain America 3" lined up.

Summer box-office analysis: Hollywood is losing America, taking over the world

For this summer’s box office, the hits keep on coming—and not the good kind, the ones with $100 million opening weekends. No, the summer of 2014 has been one body-blow after another at the U.S. box office, as the collective slate of big Hollywood films has failed to keep up with last summer’s record pace. The most recent weekend, which witnessed Dawn of the Planet of the Apes repeat as the top movie, was trailing the same weekend last year by almost 25 percent. July is down more than 30 percent year-to-year, and the summer as a whole is down almost 19 percent from last year.

To be fair, the summer of 2013 was monstrous, with Iron Man 3 and Despicable Me 2 leading a parade of blockbusters that included 19 films that topped $100 million. This year, there have been only 10 films to hit that mark, though the season isn’t over yet, obviously. But as previously detailed, this summer might yield the worst box office in decades, with ticket sales down to disturbing levels. But why?

Child Resistant: The Serious Lack of Kid-Friendly Movies This Summer

When I was growing up, one of the highlights of summer was seeing movies with my parents and brother. Our budget was tight, so a lot of thought and discussion went into finding the right movie, one that would satisfy our four-quadrant family. Whichever one we chose — Willow, Sister Act, The Lion King, Back to the Future Part III — was carefully selected from the available options, of which there were many.

Now I’m the mother of a six-year-old boy who loves movies just as much as I do. This summer, the ones he’s most excited about are Transformers: Age of Extinction, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Guardians of the Galaxy. All of these have two things in common: First, they are being aggressively marketed to him. And second, he is not allowed to see them. Transformers and Guardians are both rated PG-13 and while the Aug. 8 TMNT reboot is not yet rated, the intense action in the trailer alone made it a clear no.

The worst movies starring Forbes’s highest-paid actors of 2014

Forbes released its list of the “Hollywood’s Highest Paid Actors” of 2014 this week.

Let’s end the suspense: The actors, from highest paid on down, are Robert Downey Jr., Dwayne Johnson a.k.a. “The Rock,” Bradley Cooper, Leonardo DiCaprio, Chris Hemsworth, Liam Neeson, Ben Affleck, Christian Bale, Will Smith and Mark Wahlberg.

But this story is not about the wealth amassed by the stars of, respectively, “Iron Man,” “Pain & Gain,” “The Wolf of Wall Street,”  “Silver Linings Playbook,” “Thor,” “Schindler’s List,” “Argo,” “Batman,” “I, Robot” and “Boogie Nights.”

Mark Ruffalo on the foe Hulk needs for a stand-alone movie

Ever since The Avengers debuted two years ago, fans have been demanding: When is Mark Ruffalo going to get a stand-alone movie as the Hulk?

With Marvel Studios recently announcing a slate of seven untitled movies that spans into 2019, it’s possible we may get an answer to the question at Comic-Con this week.

If a Hulk movie isn’t among them, the answer is probably: Never. At least, not with Ruffalo in the lead, since he has been open about the fact that his own age, 46, starts to become a problem for a superhero – especially if we’re looking more than five years down the line.

How to Survive a Zombie Outbreak According to the Movies

Each and every zombie movie seems to add its own flourish to the preexisting mythology. Sometimes, after rising from their earthy graves, zombies shamble slowly; other times they sprint. Sometimes they're nearly indestructible, other times they're soft and squishy. A24's charmingly lovesick "Life After Beth," (available now on DIRECTV), suggests that zombies can be mellowed out with the use calming music like smooth jazz or adult contemporary. (Also: when they first come back, zombies are pretty horny.)

There are some constants, however, no matter what the zombie movie is, so we figured we'd run down five things that movies have taught us to keep in mind in order to survive a zombie outbreak. These are five things that could keep you alive, should the world devolve into apocalyptic, flesh-eating madness. So you might want to remember them.

Kids Say the Darndest Things: A Supercut of Children Cursing in Movies

There’s not much to say here, except to laud Avaryl Halley’s important work: a supercut of kids cursing in movies. The video kicks off with Ralphie from A Christmas Story, then gives us a nice compilation of innocent, adorable children at their most foul-mouthed and profane. Included are classic moments of obscenity from The Sandlot, Little Miss Sunshine, and, of course, South Park.

Police: Movie, TV legend James Garner dies

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Actor James Garner, whose whimsical style in the 1950s TV Western "Maverick" led to a stellar career in TV and films such as "The Rockford Files" and his Oscar-nominated "Murphy's Romance," has died, police said. He was 86.

He was found dead of natural causes at his home in the Brentwood area of Los Angeles Saturday evening, Los Angeles police officer Alonzo Iniquez said early Sunday.

Police responded to a call around 8 p.m. PDT and confirmed Garner's identity from family members, Iniquez told The Associated Press.

Robert Downey Jr named highest paid actor in Hollywood for second year

Robert Downey Jr has been named the highest paid Hollywood actor for the second year running, earning $75 million (£44m) in the past year.

The 49-year-old has topped the Forbes list of top earning actors thanks to his starring role in Iron Man 3, which earned almost $1.2 billion at the global box office.

Even Government Agencies Play The 'Kim Kardashian: Hollywood' Game, And Here's Proof

Talk about awkward tweets: On Monday night, July 21, The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Office of Water accidentally tweeted an auto-generated tweet from Kim Kardashian's new game, "Kim Kardashian: Hollywood." That's right -- in between tweets about clean water and toxic algae nestled a tweet that proved whomever is running the account is trying to rise to virtual stardom, which is almost as important as trying to rid the country of water-related diseases.

Business Insider, Daily Dot, The Los Angeles Times and Buzzfeed have all posted screengrabs of the tweet, and Buzzfeed notes it was live for three hours and garnered more than 3,000 retweets before being deleted.

As for the tweet itself, according to all four outlets, it read: "I'm now a C-List celebrity in Kim Kardashian: Hollywood. Come join me and become famous too by playing on iPhone!" It went out at 9:48 p.m. to the agency's over 52,000 Twitter followers. One of them, Michigan Congressman John Dingell, replied:

James Garner: Stars mourn loss of Hollywood icon

Hollywood is reeling following the death of veteran actor James Garner.

The "Maverick" and "Notebook" star, who died on Saturday at his home in Los Angeles at 86, left an impression on many of his co-stars through the years.

"Jim was a mentor to me and a friend, and I will miss him," said Tom Selleck, who early in his career guest-starred on Garner's 1970s series "The Rockford Files."

Vince clothing line selects Hollywood for regional headquarters

Vince, a popular contemporary fashion brand based in New York, has agreed to lease a new regional headquarters office in Hollywood.

Vince will take 28,500 square feet of space at the Lab @ 900 Cahuenga, an office complex under construction at 900 N. Cahuenga Blvd., real estate broker Nicole Mihalka of JLL said.

The low-rise building erected in 1947 was formerly home to a Time Warner Cable call center. It is undergoing a multimillion-dollar makeover by architecture firm Rios Clementi Hale to make it more appealing to creative firms.

Fallen power line causes temporary outage in Hollywood

More than 1,800 Hollywood residents temporarily lost power Monday after a power line fell.

"We're 99 percent sure that lightning caused this," said Steve Neville, a Florida Power & Light Co. worker. "It affected a lot of people."

When the wire fell around 2 p.m., it struck a fence behind a house in the 7400 block of Raleigh Street.

"It stayed energized," Neville said. "It went right through the fence."

Hollywood in the 30s: an enchanting journey in images

It is almost a century since the ‘golden age’ of Hollywood came around, yet the birth of Tinseltown and the decade following it is still regarded as one of the most glamorous eras of the 1900s. Hollywood in the 1930s turns the lens on the home of the original motion picture, starting with Charlie Chaplin’s silent films and graduating through to color movies such as The Wizard of Oz.
