The mystery-thriller “Gone Girl” took home the top prize at the 2014 Hollywood Film Awards on Friday night in Los Angeles. But while an array of Hollywood A-listers, including Angelina Jolie, Ben Affleck and Johnny Depp, showed up for the event’s first televised ceremony, audiences at home did not. The program, which was hosted by Queen Latifah and carried by CBS, attracted about four million viewers at its peak, according to the websiteTVbythenumbers.com.
The previous Friday, the network’s usual lineup (“The Amazing Race,” “Hawaii 5-0” and “Blue Bloods”) peaked at 11.4 million. Now in its 18th year, the Hollywood Film Awards are selected by an anonymous panel of industry insiders and executives and honor movies released or scheduled for release in the calendar year. “The Imitation Game,” which has a Nov. 28 release date, was one of the evening’s most lauded films, with acting honors for Benedict Cumberbatch and Keira Knightley and a directing prize for Morten Tyldum. The cast of“Foxcatcher” won best ensemble.
