Hollywood man arrested two days in a row, charged with committing same crime

A trip to a Hollywood convenience store sent one man to jail for the second time in two days.

"You fall in that unique group of people, sir, and there aren't very many of them, but you have accomplished a feat," Judge John "Jay" Hurley said to Stephon Brown, 28, in first-appearance court Wednesday. "You've been arrested twice now in a 48-hour period for doing the exact same thing twice."

Brown, of Hollywood, was arrested Monday — and again Tuesday — and charged with trespassing at the same Kwik Stop.

Brown's actions are "akin to touching a hot stove twice where the first time you apparently didn't learn from it," Hurley said. "I'm sure they saved money on the booking sheet because all they had to do was change the date."

In both instances, Hurley said, Brown is accused of harassing customers for money and causing a disturbance. The store's owners had told Brown to leave multiple times.

Hurley said he had told Brown during first-appearance court Tuesday that he was not allowed to return to the Kwik Stop.

"And what happened? Mr. Brown got out of jail and went right back to the Kwik Stop," Hurley said.

When Hollywood police arrived at the store Tuesday, they found Brown talking to a man outside, Hurley said.

"Yesterday, I told you and you agreed not to go back to that same store because they said you were bothering the people over there," Hurley said. "I let you out of jail. We didn't plan on seeing you again, but you went right back there again apparently and started it all over again."

Brown's attorney told the judge Wednesday in court that Brown gets paid $30 a day to pass out fliers for a salon.
